Yes, even advent calendars require a degree of organisation! The beginning of advent means for many the beginning of what is often a great family tradition – advent calendars! Chocolate – no one needs to tell me twice that it’s nice (and its definitely not naughty!!!). But, you may be wanting some alternatives for the kids that aren’t going to give them a sugar high. Or perhaps you want to curb the festive food intake early, reduce plastic waste, minimise the consumption of palm oil to save the orangutans, or to simply be known as an original. Here’s a start.
Just as if they were made for advent bunting calendars, little board books fit perfectly into a pocket, and perfect for little hands. I picked up a handful from Facebook Market Place from a young girl who was selling her younger brother’s books (with permission from her Mum of course!) to fund her move to Sydney, so it definitely felt worth the effort to collect them!
Whether you have a big train table, a small train set, or simply in need of a few of those toys to take out to get you through a coffee date with a friend, toy trains are always a hit. Kmart have a great range of wooden FSC certified trains in store.
This little cutie I picked up brand new in its box, from my local Salvos op shop. She’s tomorrow morning’s surprise!
Set your mini artist up for the holiday period with a set of paintbrushes. Wooden brushes give a great sensory experience.
Starting school in the mid 80’s, I have fond memories of marbles – playing and swapping! This tub is great for separating into a few little bundles for your calendar.
Imaginative play is endless with a beautiful wooden camera! These ones from Kmart come in three different colours.
And best of all, chocolate….
Try buying a block of chocolate and breaking into pieces and re-wrapping in the foil.
What other ideas do you use for your advent calendar?
